What Are Clear Aligners?
Clear aligners use transparent thermoplastic trays to move your teeth into a more aesthetic and functional alignment. Although there are many brands of aligners available, we use SmileStyler because they offer quality materials and workmanship and are based in Australia. The trays are manufactured in their state-of-the-art 3D printing facility in Victoria, meaning you can get started with treatment quickly.
Aligners vs Traditional Braces
SmileStyler aligners offer many advantages for adults and teens. Unlike traditional braces, clear aligners are virtually invisible, more comfortable and easier to care for. You can also eat anything you want—you remove your trays before eating, so you don’t have to worry.
What to Expect
We begin with an exam and consultation to determine if clear aligners are the right option for you. We’ll take X-rays and 3D scans of your teeth, which are used to plan the treatment process and create simulated “after” images, showing what your teeth will look like when the process is complete. If you’re ready to begin, we’ll order your customised aligners.
You can begin wearing your trays as soon as we receive them. We’ll book appointments for you every couple of months to give you the next group of trays and check to see that everything is moving as it should.
Wearing Your Aligners
You need to wear your trays for at least 22 hours a day, remove them to eat and drink, and brush your teeth. Clean your aligners each night and put them back in. You’ll wear each set of trays for a specified period, then move on to the next set.
For most patients, treatment takes between 12 and 18 months, after which, you’ll wear clear retainers to keep your teeth in position.
